Attention and comparison of energy consumption of stage lights

When choosing stage lights, energy consumption is a key factor affecting long-term operating costs and environmental benefits. The following analysis is conducted from three dimensions: energy consumption concerns, energy consumption comparisons of different types of lamps, and energy-saving technologies and application strategies, to help users scientifically assess the energy consumption of lamps and select efficient products.

First, the core indicator of energy consumption concern

Luminous efficacy (lm/W)

Luminous efficacy is the ratio of the luminous flux emitted by a light source to the power consumed, with the unit being lumens per watt (lm/W). The lighting effect of LED stages is usually 50-60 lm/W, which is much higher than that of traditional halogen lamps or incandescent lamps (about 10-20 lm/W).

Meaning: The higher the luminous efficacy, the greater the luminous flux generated per unit of electrical energy and the lower the energy consumption.

Power (W)

The power of lamps directly affects energy consumption. For instance, under the same luminous efficacy, the energy consumption of a traditional 2KW reflector lamp is only 1/10 of that of a 200W LED lamp.

Significance: Low-power lamps can significantly reduce power consumption, especially suitable for performances that run for long periods.

Lifespan and light attenuation

The theoretical lifespan of LED lamps can reach 50,000 hours, and in practical use, they can last for more than 30,000 hours, with light attenuation reduced to 50% of the initial level. The lifespan of traditional lamps is usually 750 to 2,000 hours.

Significance: Long-life lamps reduce the frequency of replacement, lower maintenance costs and waste generation.

Heat energy emission

LED lamps release less heat, reducing the demand for cooling equipment by about five times. Traditional lamps generate a lot of heat and require additional cooling equipment, which increases energy consumption.

Low heat energy emissions can reduce the power consumption of air conditioners or fans, achieving overall energy conservation.

Second, a comparison of energy consumption among different types of lamps

LED lamps vs. Traditional lamps

Energy consumption comparison: Under the same illuminance, LED lights can save more than 80% of electricity. For example, the annual operating cost of a traditional 2KW threaded spotlight is approximately 382,720 yuan, while that of a 200W LED lamp is only 67,264 yuan.

Advantages: LED lamps not only have low energy consumption but also offer richer color representation. They support dimming and color adjustment, making them suitable for diverse stage requirements.

The elimination trend of high-energy-consuming lamps

Traditional iodine tungsten lamps, stroboscopic lamps, stage backlighting lamps, etc. are gradually being replaced by LED lamps due to their high energy consumption and short lifespan. For instance, if the temperature at the focus of a reflector lamp is too high, it can easily cause a fire, and its energy consumption is several times that of an LED lamp.

Significance: Choosing energy-saving lamps can reduce safety risks and enhance the operational efficiency of the stage.

Third, energy-saving technologies and application strategies

Adopt highly efficient and energy-saving equipment

Replacement strategy: Replacing traditional halogen bulbs with LED lamps is a direct way to reduce energy consumption. For instance, replacing a 2KW spotlight with a 200W LED light can save 80% of the annual electricity bill.

Technical advantages: LED lamps support low-voltage power supply (2V-24V), have high safety, and contain no harmful metal mercury, causing no pollution to the environment.

Optimize the lighting layout

Reasonable allocation: According to the actual needs of the stage, the positions and quantities of lighting fixtures should be reasonably allocated to avoid waste of light. For instance, in an immersive stage, miniaturized LED lamps are hidden within the set to reduce unnecessary lighting.

Dynamic control: On-demand lighting is achieved through an intelligent console, such as turning off some lamps when the actors are not on stage to reduce energy consumption.

Utilize renewable energy

Outdoor application: In outdoor performances, combine solar or wind power supply to reduce reliance on traditional power grids. For instance, solar panels are used to power LED lamps, achieving zero carbon emissions.

Energy storage system: Equipped with energy storage batteries to ensure continuous power supply even when there is no sunlight or insufficient wind.

Lighting fixture recycling and reuse

Environmental protection design: Select lamps made of recyclable materials, establish a recycling mechanism, and extend the life cycle of the equipment. For instance, the lamp beads and heat sinks of LED lamps can be disassembled and recycled, reducing resource waste.

Reuse strategy: Transform retired lamps into backup light sources or use them in low-demand scenarios to reduce procurement costs.

Fourth, Summary and Suggestions

Core principle: When choosing stage lights, priority should be given to energy consumption indicators such as luminous efficacy, power, lifespan and heat emission, and LED lamps with high energy efficiency and long lifespan should be selected.

Selection method:

Compare the luminous efficacy and power of different lamps and choose the product with high luminous efficacy and low power.

Verify the lifespan and light attenuation performance of lamps, and give priority to choosing LED lamps with long lifespan and low light attenuation.

Evaluate the heat energy emissions of the lamps and select those with low requirements for refrigeration equipment.

Application Strategy:

Overall energy conservation can be achieved by replacing traditional lamps, optimizing the lighting layout and utilizing renewable energy.

Establish a lighting fixture recycling mechanism to reduce resource waste and enhance environmental protection benefits.
