Regular inspection cycle
Check before daily use
Before each stage performance, a quick inspection of the bulbs should be carried out. This is like checking the tire pressure before driving, which is a fundamental step to ensure the smooth progress of the performance. Mainly check whether there is any obvious damage to the appearance of the bulb, such as whether there are cracks or breaks in the glass casing. Even a very small crack may rapidly expand after the bulb is lit due to the internal high temperature and pressure changes, causing the bulb to explode. This not only damages the lamp but also may cause harm to the stage staff and actors. Meanwhile, observe whether the connection between the bulb and the lamp holder is firm and if there are any signs of loosening. Loosening may lead to poor contact, affecting the normal lighting of the bulb and even causing circuit failures.
Weekly in-depth inspection
A relatively comprehensive inspection should be arranged once a week. In addition to repeating the inspection items before daily use, it is also necessary to check the lighting condition of the bulb. You can turn on the bulb in a relatively dark environment and observe whether its brightness is uniform, and whether there are any flickering, dark areas or color cast phenomena. For example, if the bulb flickers, it might be a signal that the internal circuit is unstable or the bulb's lifespan is about to run out. If dark areas appear, it might be that the filament inside the bulb is partially damaged or there is a gas leak. Color deviation may affect the overall lighting and shadow effect of the stage and do not meet the requirements of performance design. In addition, it is necessary to check the heat dissipation inside the lamp, as good heat dissipation is the key to ensuring the normal operation of the bulb and extending its lifespan. Touch the lamp housing with your hand to feel if its temperature is normal. If the temperature is too high, it might be a problem with the heat dissipation system. You need to clean the heat dissipation holes in time or check if the cooling fan is operating normally.
Monthly professional inspection
Every month, professional technicians should conduct a detailed inspection of the stage light bulbs. Use professional detection equipment, such as luminance meters and color temperature meters, to accurately measure parameters like the brightness and color temperature of the bulb, and compare them with the specification parameters of the lamp to determine whether the performance of the bulb meets the requirements. Meanwhile, check whether the electrodes of the bulb are worn. The electrodes of a light bulb will gradually wear out during long-term use. Severely worn electrodes can lead to problems such as difficulty in starting the bulb and reduced luminous efficiency. Technicians can also determine whether there are potential problems such as gas leakage by observing the luminous state inside the bulb. If it is found that the performance of the bulb has declined or there are potential fault hazards, it should be recorded in time and replaced.
Replacement cycle
It is judged based on the duration of use
The service life of stage light bulbs is one of the important factors determining the replacement cycle. The rated service life of different types of light bulbs varies. Generally speaking, the rated service life of common stage light bulbs ranges from several hundred to several thousand hours. When the service life of a light bulb approaches its rated lifespan, it is necessary to closely monitor the changes in its performance. For instance, the rated lifespan of some halogen bulbs may be around 500 to 1,000 hours. When the usage time reaches approximately 800 hours, it is advisable to start considering replacement. At this point, the brightness of the bulb will gradually decrease and its luminous efficiency will also decline. Continuing to use it may affect the stage lighting effect. Some gas discharge bulbs, such as metal halide bulbs, may have a rated lifespan of 2,000 to 5,000 hours. When the usage time approaches 4,000 hours, they need to be evaluated and replaced.
Judge based on performance
Even if the bulb has not yet reached its rated lifespan, if its performance shows a significant decline, it still needs to be replaced in a timely manner. As mentioned earlier, when the bulbs experience significant brightness reduction, flickering, color deviation and other issues, it will affect the overall visual effect of the stage. For instance, in an important performance, if the lighting in a certain area is insufficient, it will make the actors or props in that area appear dull and lackluster, spoiling the layering and atmosphere of the entire stage. In addition, if the bulb frequently has difficulty starting up, it is also necessary to consider replacing it. Difficulty in starting up may be caused by reasons such as worn electrodes of the bulb or changes in the internal gas composition. Continuing to use it may result in the bulb not starting up normally and even damage the lamp.
Judge based on the performance requirements
Different performances have different requirements for stage lighting effects. In some performances with extremely high requirements for lighting quality, such as large-scale musicals and concerts, in order to ensure the best visual effect, even if the performance of the bulbs has not shown obvious problems, it may be necessary to replace them before the performance. For instance, during a concert performance, in order to create a rich and colorful, layered lighting effect, the lighting technician may precisely control the brightness and color of each bulb according to the changes in the performance repertoire and scene. If the performance of the bulb deviates slightly, the expected effect may not be achieved. Therefore, in this case, even if the bulbs have a relatively short lifespan, they will be replaced before the performance to ensure its smooth progress. In some performances with relatively low lighting requirements, such as small-scale dramas and lectures, the replacement cycle of the bulbs can be appropriately extended, but it is also necessary to ensure that the performance of the bulbs can meet the basic lighting needs.
