Basic measurement and positioning tools
Tape measure: Before installing the stage lights, it is necessary to precisely measure the dimensions of each area of the stage, such as the length, width, and height of the stage, as well as the distance between the installation position of the lights and the edge of the stage and other equipment. For instance, when determining the installation spacing of the lamps on the hanging rods, a tape measure can provide accurate values, ensuring that the lamps are evenly distributed and the lighting effect is good. Generally, a tape measure with a length ranging from 5 to 10 meters is chosen to meet the measurement requirements of stages of different scales.
Laser rangefinders: For some large stages or situations where rapid and precise long-distance measurement is required, laser rangefinders are more efficient. It can quickly emit laser beams and measure the time it takes to reflect back, thereby calculating the distance with relatively high accuracy. For instance, when measuring the height from the top of the stage to the ground, or determining the distance between large lamps and the center point of the stage, laser rangefinders can significantly enhance the measurement efficiency.
When installing lamps, it is crucial to ensure that the lamps are in a horizontal or vertical position; otherwise, it will affect the lighting effect. Levels are divided into two types: bubble type and electronic type. The bubble level determines whether it is level by observing the position of the bubble in the glass tube. It is cost-effective and easy to use. Electronic levels can display angles more accurately and are suitable for installation scenarios with high precision requirements. When installing track lights, chandeliers and other lamps that need to be installed horizontally or vertically, a level can help installers accurately adjust the position of the lamps.
Electrical connection tools
Wire stripper: It is used to strip the outer sheath of wires to facilitate the connection of lamps and power sources. When installing stage lights, it is necessary to strip off a certain length of the insulation layer of the wires to expose the copper core inside, so as to achieve reliable electrical connection. The wire stripping pliers come in various specifications. You can choose the appropriate cutting edge according to the thickness of the wire. The operation is simple and fast, which can ensure the quality of wire stripping and avoid damaging the copper core.
Wire crimping pliers: When connecting lamps and power cords, it is necessary to use terminal blocks to firmly connect the wires. The wire crimping pliers are used to press the terminal blocks onto the wires to ensure a tight connection and good conductivity. Different types of terminal blocks require different specifications of crimping pliers. Choosing the appropriate crimping pliers can ensure the crimping quality and prevent problems such as poor contact and short circuit.
Screwdrivers (cross and straight) : The installation of stage lights usually requires the use of screws to fix the lamps and connecting components. The cross-head screwdriver is suitable for the installation of most lamps with cross-head slot screws, while the flat-head screwdriver is used for flat-head slot screws. Prepare screwdrivers of different specifications according to the size and type of screws on the lamps to ensure that the screws can be tightened or loosened smoothly.
Electric drills and drill bits: If it is necessary to drill holes in the stage structure to install lamp brackets or fasteners, an electric drill is an indispensable tool. Select the appropriate drill bit based on the hardness of the stage material. For instance, when drilling holes on a wooden stage, ordinary twist drills can be used, while when drilling holes on a metal structure, hard alloy drills are required. Electric drills come in various types such as hand drills and impact drills. Hand drills are suitable for drilling holes in softer materials, while impact drills can be used to drill holes in hard materials like concrete.
Insulating tape: Used to wrap wire joints to prevent leakage and short circuits. After the electrical connection is completed, use insulating tape to tightly wrap the joint part to achieve insulation and protection. Choosing high-quality and highly adhesive insulating tape can ensure the safety of electrical connections.
Tools for installing and fixing lamps
Wrenches (adjustable wrenches and socket wrenches) : When installing some large stage lights or brackets that require adjusting the Angle of the lamps, a wrench may be needed to tighten or loosen the bolts. The opening size of the adjustable wrench is adjustable and suitable for bolts of different specifications. Socket wrenches can provide better torque transmission and are suitable for tightening tighter bolts.
Climbing equipment (ladders, scaffolding) : The top of the stage is usually quite high, and climbing equipment is needed when installing lighting fixtures. The ladder is suitable for installation at a lower height, such as the installation of wall lamps at the edge of the stage. Scaffolding is more suitable for higher stage tops or situations where large-scale operations are required. Scaffolding can provide a stable working platform, facilitating the operation of installers. At the same time, attention should be paid to the safety of scaffolding construction to ensure its stability.
Lamp brackets and fasteners: Prepare the corresponding lamp brackets and fasteners according to the type and installation position of the lamp. For instance, chandeliers require hanging rods and hooks, while track lights need tracks and track connectors. These brackets and fasteners should be selected from reliable quality products that can bear the weight of the lamps to ensure the firmness of the lamp installation.
Other auxiliary tools
Marking pen: During the installation process, it is used to mark the installation position, line direction and other information on the stage structure or equipment. It is convenient for installers to operate accurately and avoid installation errors. For example, when determining the installation point of the lamp, make marks on the hanging rod or the wall with a marking pen.
Cleaning tools (rags, brushes) : After installation is completed, the lamps and stage need to be cleaned. The cloth is used to wipe the dust and stains on the surface of the lamps, and the brush can be used to clean the dust inside the lamps or some hard-to-reach areas, ensuring the cleanliness and normal operation of the lamps.
